Bring your favorite chocolate dessert to share at the church's Ladies Night Out.
We'll gather to consider Psalm 34:8
"Taste and see that the Lord is good" and watch the movie "Chocolat."
I'll admit my reservations about this invitation to view such a charged film under the roof of the Lord's house, especially in the company of older – perhaps, more conservative – women.
My apprehensions were dispelled tonight. Young and old alike, we laughed at the movie's characters as the story progressed... breaking down barriers of fanatical tradition, difficult expectations and generational curses in exchange for youthful wisdom, love, forgiveness and acceptance.
One by one
each character
changed –
with the help
of others –
to see life
in another light.
Following
the movie,
we
discussed
messages:
Rather than deny ourselves pleasures, why not enjoy what this life offers.
Rather than
exclude
others,
why not
find ways
to include
them.
So that
in the end,
we can
all share
a sense
of belonging... and taste and see life's goodness – like that in a bit of Chocolat!
